Are they superior to tumble dryers? 02:50 I'm not sure if I'm more worried that one man very clearly cares and the rest of you don't. 02:57 I feel two ways about this topic. On the one hand, I do like the convenience of clothes dried in a dryer. On the other hand, I do like the smell of clothes dried on an outdoor line. 03:08 However, I live in Toronto. 03:12 Our backyard can be seen from other houses in our neighborhood, and I don't think I need my neighbors guessing the age of my, let's call them, vintage underwear. 03:23 Now for a debate with a laundry list of jokes. So, whereas it's gentler on fabrics, lower on energy costs, and allows for time outdoors, be it resolved when it comes to laundry, a clothesline is superior to a dryer. Katie Ellen, you're arguing for this, please. You have two minutes. Good! 04:28 That's another money-saving hack. 04:31 People spend a small fortune on skin rejuvenation when they could just leave their laundry out on the line a little too long. Who needs a chemical peel when you've got a towel that'll rub you raw better than a belt sander? That's right. 04:52 Oh, air drying takes longer? Good. What's the rush? 04:58 Where you gotta be work? Gross. A 2007 report by Statistics Canada showed Saskatchewan had the lowest instance of clothesline and drying rack use of all provinces. 05:17 A 2024 survey finds Saskatchewan similarly at the bottom spot of reported happiness by province. 05:27 Coincidence? How dare you? 05:32 The good people of this beautiful province are spending their one precious life searching for lost socks and wondering what permanent press does. It's like a party in there. 06:54 Your cat watches the whole thing. 06:58 It's exciting. No wonder you need a static sheet. The air is electric. 07:07 Yeah, that's why they put a window on the front. They know it's worth watching. 07:15 Or do you want to leave your clothes out to dry, hanging there lifeless, like a thieving pirate that's been used to send a message to all the other clothes? You don't want to end up like this. 07:28 Now, do dryers shrink your clothes? Yes, but so does ice cream. I mean, where do we draw the line, Steve? 07:43 Do dryers light houses on fire sometimes? What doesn't these days? 07:51 And yes, things get lost in the dryer. I say let them go on a little adventure. And if they come back to you, it's really true love. 08:03 If you hang dry your clothes outside, the whole plan becomes unraveled if it starts to drizzle. 08:10 And if you hang dry them in the basement, all that moisture from the wet clothes has nowhere to go. It raises the humidity in your house. Mold starts to grow. You breathe that in, you end up dead. Or worse, you end up dead and you soil yourself. 08:25 And now your clothes need to be thoroughly washed and dried properly in a dryer. Saskatoon, should it be the capital of Saskatchewan? 19:51 This is a hot topic question that literally no one outside of Saskatchewan was asking. 19:57 Until just now. 19:59 Because there's nothing I love more than showing up in a prosperous and picturesque city and creating unnecessary provincial tension. 20:07 But don't worry, this will be a fun, lighthearted debate until anyone from Regina hears it. 20:15 And maybe then you can pay them off with some Baba's Homestyle pierogies. Am I right? 20:21 All right, now it's time for a debate that will be legislature to get some laughs. 20:26 So, the puns are on purpose, just so you guys know. 20:33 Whereas it's a lively city that features beautiful natural landscapes, a vibrant arts and cultural scene, and a growing population, be it resolved, Saskatoon should be the capital of Saskatchewan. Have you seen the two cities? 21:39 You can leave this theatre, walk one block, stroll across the Broadway Bridge, take in gorgeous views of the river and the lush green parks and pathways. Regina was built on bold prairie with literally no trees and no viable source of water. Regina has the topography of a bowling ball and the smell of bowling shoes. 22:04 What do you want in a capital? Saskatoon has a more dynamic economy, better theater and music, more attractive people who are in... You think parking's bad now in Saskatoon? Imagine the old MLAs trying to whip past the Fringe Festival to get to the sessions. What is Regina's? 29:01 Peter? Saskatoon's nickname is Paris of the Prairies. Regina's is the less sexy Minot, North Dakota. 29:12 That's a full point from the audience. 29:15 Regina's, for those who don't know, is the Queen City. We also would have accepted the Peterborough of the Prairies. 29:24 Regina is the only place in all of Canada where you can train to be what? 29:28 Corey? To be someone who can keep a straight face at a table full of ad execs asking for a fun wordplay on the city's name. Okay. 29:41 The audience has given you another point. It's the only place in Canada where you can train to be an RCMP officer. 29:50 And they have to deal with geese. 29:54 The city of Saskatoon's official website gives visitors a menu of options that all begin with the phrase, I want to, including, I want to report, I want to apply, I want to pay, and what else? TripAdvisor's list of top things to do in Saskatoon includes Mewasin Valley, the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo, and what museum? Corey. Three words, Steve. Regina should be the capital for the same reason when you leave your parents' house, you don't take anything with you. Where are you going to put everything? The boxes and boxes of legislature, the bags of institutions, the bureaucratic kitchen drawers full of bits and bobs of government, and everything is in cursive. What's wrong with you? Live your life! Go have fun. Moving to be a capital city would yuck your yum, Saskatoon. That's what I'm saying. Yes! APPLAUSE And what kind of attention do you need? Forget about origin stories, culture, sports, drinking water, and odor. Forget about your yuck and or your yum. Forget about the inconvenience it would mean for us. The capital, the city that represents the province, should be one thing above all. It should be dignified. 33:30 Well, in 2023, Tourism Regina had to apologize for a campaign called Experience Regina, which included the slogans, show us your Regina and the city that rhymes with fun. 33:50 Get it, 14-year-old boys? Get it? It's clever. It's clever. Are we proud, Saskatchewan? Is this the best we can do? All right, I have made jokes at the expense of Regina, but let's be honest with the rest of the country. The people in this room, the people in Saskatoon, do acknowledge the city to our south that has a rich history and an amazing story to tell. That city is Moose Jaw, and it would also be a better capital. Thank you.
